Early Childhood Teacher (ECT)

We’re looking for a passionate Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher to join our 93-place early learning centre in Emerald.

This is an important educational leadership role within our service, working closely with our Centre Director, Educational Leader and educator team to deliver high-quality early learning experiences for children.

First5Years is continuing to deepen our Reggio Emilia-inspired practice, with a focus on children’s voices, inquiry-based learning, thoughtful environments, meaningful documentation, reflection and strong educator collaboration.

The opportunity

You’ll lead and implement high-quality early childhood education programs, supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, agency and development every day.

You’ll work closely with the Centre Director and Educational Leader, contributing to curriculum planning, documentation, reflective practice and quality improvement across the service.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and implement high-quality early childhood education programs
  • Support children’s learning, wellbeing, agency and development
  • Create opportunities for inquiry, exploration and child-led learning
  • Build strong relationships with children, families and educators
  • Contribute to curriculum planning, documentation and reflective practice
  • Support implementation of the EYLF, NQS and QKLG where applicable
  • Work closely with the Centre Director and Educational Leader
  • Contribute to quality improvement across the service
  • Help create calm, engaging and purposeful learning environments

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • A genuine passion for early childhood education
  • An ACECQA-approved Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or equivalent qualification, or working towards one
  • A strong understanding of the EYLF, NQS and child-led learning
  • An interest in Reggio Emilia-inspired and inquiry-based practice
  • A warm, professional and collaborative approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A commitment to child safety, inclusion and continuous improvement
  • A current Queensland Blue Card, or willingness to obtain one
  • Current First Aid, CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis training, or willingness to obtain it

About First5Years Emerald

First5Years Emerald is where First5Years began: a centre for children from birth to six years in the Central Highlands, open 6:30am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday. Six rooms, an approved Queensland Kindergarten program and scratch-made meals sit alongside a playscape built for real, risky play.
